We all have an idea of what animal cruelty is but how much are you truly aware of this harmful abuse? Everyday animals are being beaten, neglected, and forced to struggle for survival. They are sometimes left in unsanitary conditions with no food or water, they have little hope as they live their days without the compassion they deserve. Some are found and rescued given the chance to experience how great life and humans can be; others aren't so lucky. Animal abuse affects us in many ways: it’s bad for our animals; it affects not only the animal but those who witness it. These animal abusers are criminals.

To grow as a nation we must fight for these abused animals’ rights. It is up to us to speak for the animals that lack a voice, who will, if we won’t? In 1989, 16,989 animals died in laboratories in the United Kingdom. This was due to hurtful, harsh, and chronic toxicity test, where the animals are forced to consume substances such as perfume, make-up, and other beauty products, that were poisoned. Another testing method is lethal doses also known as LD50, in this procedure at least half of the animals must die in order for the government to figure out how much a human can ingest without dying.

There were multiple tests, in one such test animals were fed 4 pounds of lipstick and one ended up dying of intestinal obstruction. In another, 7 pints of melted eye shadow was fed to rats. In yet another, mice were wrapped in tin foil and grilled in ultra-violent light to test a sun block cream for a total of 96 hours, results were the longer the mice stayed in rays, the more sun-burnt it got, but that’s not all there’s more. A wax product used in many cosmetics was given to animals through a stomach tube.

The amount that was used is equivalent to feeding one lb. of food to a human. Animals used as objects tend to attract fans and an audience for the purpose of entertainment. So does this mean that they love the abuse of animals? Racing horses, dog fighting, and circuses cause animals to suffer. Others think it’s OK as long as they get treated humanely. Many believe these animals are doing what they love to do. In some cases yes this may be true, but should these poor animals have to suffer? For example in rodeos horses are hit, kicked, and slammed into grounds.

They fracture legs, broken backs, suffer heart attacks, and even get their throat slit in view of others. If not able to perform get sent to slaughter houses. Another case is dog fights. The owners of these dogs, most likely pit bulls are trained from a baby to be aggressive and vicious. Their first instinct will be to fight other dogs and that forces them to be chained up or locked in cages. These innocent dogs grow up to be dogs that not very many people like because of their label. Is it their fault that they think that it’s normal?

It’s just like if you were to raise your child with no manners and think he’s going to be the politest kid in the world. No! It just doesn’t work that way. As Kathy Guillermo said, “When a sport becomes as deadly for horses as dog fighting for pit bulls, it’s time to shut it down. ” Another concern is Circus shows. Animals is Circus shows are so cramped up in small spaces and cages that when they go to perform they tend to get out of control and can hurt people. They also, when sufferings, from sickness are forced to still go out and “entertain.”

The idea of treating animals as objects instead of understanding that they are living, and breathing is completely inhumane. Animals are important in our society; we have dozens of native animals, as well as animals brought over from other places animals that aren’t treated well. Most of the time, It is nowhere near the animals fault, sometimes owners have no money to care for their pet, though that is no excuse for not turning to their pet into a good shelter. Animals have feelings too and it is important to treat them with the same respect that we give humans.

If we don’t care for the animals, the life cycle will change and they will become extinct. Animals provide us with many things in life, like happiness and learning new things. All the time animals are becoming smarter and more helpful, we are teaching them new tricks and they can and have helped save people. This doesn't just appeal to inside pets or farm animals that are trapped in tiny cages, used for breeding, and then slaughtered for inhumane reasons but also for those who witness the abuse because it not only affects the animals but them as well.

The topic of animal cruelty is one of the great importances to the world. Why do we humans have the right to treat animals as if they aren't important living beings, like ourselves? Animals are fulfilling their part in the ecosystem and communities on the earth, and working and contributing to our world the best way they can. For example, a spider is being the best possible spider by spinning webs and working actively at its own survival, by capturing insects and helping our world by controlling the insect population.

We as humans think that we are better life form and can basically treat anything in the world in ways we cannot imagine being treated. Imagine watching someone close to you get beaten, tortured, trapped, and in some cases even murdered. Now imagine that person is your pet. The people that experience this are now left with a mark; all because someone feels the need to hurt their property and treat it like it’s a bag of trash. We must stop animal cruelty. Educating ourselves, and speaking out will raise awareness. You have a duty to raise your awareness.
